So you have made the decision to invest money in purchasing a 3000w inverter to allow you to provide power to certain appliances in your RV. This type of inverter will be more than sufficient enough to allow you to run appliances such as a microwave or refrigerator as you travel.
But of course once you have made such a purchase you will then need to install it in your RV. You could of course arrange to have the 3000w inverter installed by a professional. But if you are looking to save money and you feel you have the relevant skills you can install it yourself. If you do decide to go ahead with installing the inverter yourself then we offer some tips below you may find very useful.
Tip 1 - It is a good idea that when investing in your inverter you also invest in a "deep cycle heavy duty battery" that will provide it with the power it needs. This type of battery is designed to discharge large amounts of power over and over again and won't suffer the sort of damage that using a normal car battery would.
Tip 2 - The next thing you need to take into consideration is of course where you intend to mount the inverter. When deciding where to mount it you must make sure that the rear of the 3000w inverter is not blocked so that air can flow freely through the cooling fan built in it. If the inverter is not getting sufficient air to keep it cool then the risk of it overheating is greatly increased. Even though today's inverters come with thermo couplings installed in them to prevent them being damaged by heat. If they do become too hot then this will cause them to be shut down as they have a system installed to protect them from overheating.
Tip 3 - It is important that you choose the right sort of wiring for installing a 3000w inverter in your RV. It is best to use the thickest (lowest) gauge wire possible. By choosing a 4 gauge or larger wire to install the inverter will ensure that power is carried more efficiently between the battery and the inverter. This will in turn ensure that an adequate amount of power is being supplied to the inverter at all times. Of course this heavy gauge wire isn't cheap to buy but it won't be as irritating that after installing your expensive inverter that there is a nasty sound and as soon as you turn on the microwave in your RV the inverter then shuts down.
Tip 4 - Finally when it comes to installing the grounding wire for your 3000w inverter make sure that you connect this securely to bare metal of your RV's frame. Also don't be afraid to fit a new ground cable from the battery to the RV frame. If you don't then you may well be surprised how much havoc can be wrought to your vehicles electrical system where the ground wire is not connected properly or is damaged.
